x+y = 14 So, x = 14-y Put this value in second equation to get 14-y-y=4 Or, 14-2y=4 Or, 14-4=2y Or, 2y=10 Or, y =5 So, x= 9

given, x+y=14................(1) and x-y=4...................(2) adding 1&2 we have,x+y+x-y=14+42x=18x=9and y= 5
