यह नाटक प्रेमचंद द्वारा लिखी कहानी बड़े भाई साहब पर आधारित है। इस नाटक में दो भाई हैं। दोनों की उम्र में पाँच वर्ष का अंतर है। लेकिन बड़ा भाई अपने छोटे भाई मुन्ना से केवल तीन क्लास ही आगे पढ़ता है।
बड़ा भाई सारा दिन पढ़ता ही रहता है। उसके बावजूद वह पास नहीं कर पाता है और एक ही क्लास में अटका रहता है। छोटा भाई यानि मुन्ना सारा दिन खेलता रहता है। फिर भी मुन्ना हर साल पास कर जाता है।
धीरे धीरे मुन्ना आठवीं क्लास में पहुँच जाता है लेकिन बड़ा भाई अभी भी नवीं क्लास में ही है। मुन्ना को घमंड हो जाता है कि वह हर क्लास आसानी से पास कर लेता है। इस पर बड़े भाई का कहना है कि केवल पढ़ाई लिखाई से कुछ नहीं होता है। जीवन के अनुभव भी मायने रखते हैं। वह अपनी माँ का उदाहरण देता है जो पढ़ी लिखी नहीं है। वह अपने पिता का उदाहरण देता है जो केवल पाँचवीं क्लास तक पढ़े हैं। यह सुनकर मुन्ना अपने किए पर शर्मिंदा होता है।
