Question 1: Some words have more than one meaning.

For example: Point

Meaning: Noun – a dot in print or writing, full stop, decimal, the number you score in a game.

Verb – to show or call attention to something.

Look up the following words in the dictionary. They may have more than one meaning. List these meanings.

(a) Ground

Answer: We play football at a nearby ground. The plane was grounded for six months.

(b) Survey

Answer: The census department carries out survey of population.

(c) Scrap

Answer: There are lots of scraps in our backyard. The old warship was scrapped by the Navy.

(d) Sternly

Answer: The Maharaja looked sternly at the cook.

(e) Tempting

Answer: Colourful jalebis were looking tempting.
