Reproduction

Reproduction cannot be termed as a life process because it is not necessary to continue life. However, reproduction is important because it helps an organism to continue its lineage. The process by which an organism produces its offspring is called reproduction. Most of the simple organisms reproduce asexually, while complex organisms show asexual reproduction. However, complex plants reproduce by both means, i.e. asexual and sexual reproduction. Meiosis is an important step in sexual reproduction and it helps in maintaining the number of chromosomes in organisms. Sexual reproduction involves production of male and female gametes and subsequently fusion of both gametes to form zygote. Zygote subsequently develops into a new individual.
